I kicked off January 2018 feeling refreshed and eager. We spent our Christmas holiday in New York, and well… New York is no London for sure, I was not ready for the cold (FREEZING), noise, people, or the food! Let’s just say I am still not convinced about their version of bacon! or not having a kettle in the hotel room? i mean your girl could not have a cuppa? cha! This is not me painting the city in a negative light, but… plus, I did not expect that on Christmas day businesses would be open like it was a normal day and what not. Yes, I anticipated the exodus for New Year’s Eve, but not like every day over the course of our 10-day stint. Having said that, one time for the food though! We had some incredible taster menu’s in Musket room and Gramercy Tavern.

As I mentioned, I was eager for January 2018. I was starting in my new job (which Is still my current job ha!). I still had a few days into the new year before actually starting and my niece picked a good time for her first solo visit to London. So I played tour guide and cemented my place as the cool auntie!

Arthur Hooper’s happened to be one of the places we took Nnene (my niece). To experience Borough Market, have a meal and catch a vibe. Plus, we needed to somewhat prepare Nnene for her first taster menu, which, if I may do say so myself was a huge success! She loved Restaurant story.

Even though Borough Market is a fresh food Market, it is also home to some really dope places to eat and have after-work drinks. Arthur Hooper’s is one such place. I do love it when the exterior of a place tells you nothing about what the inside is going to be like. The interior of Arthur Hooper’s was well utilised – I loved the wall to wall storage which not only doubled up as space to store wines but also provided the backdrop and lighting to the space. The bar area   also very sleek and clean lines and angles.

We decided to sample a few dishes especially as we had spent the earlier part of the day seeing an Abba exhibition at the south bank centre as well as pre-dinner drinks at the shard, yeah, we were ready to eat.

We started off with a charcuterie board which has cured meats, bread, olives and a pickled selection. The cheese board was a section of cheeses, crostini, chutney and celery.

We also sampled some salad, a nut mix as well as a sausage dish which I can not remember what it was called. Now the nut mix? That I remember the taste and the textures – nutty, flavourful and truly delicious. It was a mixture of nuts with cheese or pasteurised milk, olive oil and seasoning and it was darn good! Who am I kidding, everything tasted deliciously yummy! We loved it!

Arthur Hooper’s, 2 very thumbs up!

Cheers
